Mindy Domb was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives on November 6, 2018. She represents the 3rd Hampshire District, serving the communities of Amherst, Pelham and precinct 1 in Granby. She was reelected in November 2020 and is proudly serving her second term. 

 

In 2023, the 3rd Hampshire District will change and include only the town of Amherst and the first precinct in Granby.

A 23-year resident of Amherst, Mindy has dedicated her life to addressing the needs of underserved communities, supporting vulnerable individuals, and advocating for fairness and equity. 

Prior to becoming State Representative, Mindy was the Executive Director of the Amherst Survival Center for over five years. In that position, she oversaw the Center’s variety of programs, connecting residents of Amherst, Pelham, Granby and surrounding towns, to food, clothing, healthcare, wellness, community, and a variety of assistance. In that position, she launched several initiatives, from “Feeding Democracy” to the Neighborhood Food Project to expanding the services and hours of the Center’s food distribution programs.

She was a founder of the Berkshire AIDS Coalition and started Massachusetts’ first jail-based HIV education program in the Berkshire County House of Corrections. She also served as the Department of Public Health’s regional coordinator of the state’s HIV testing program. She oversaw a statewide program that worked with drug and alcohol treatment providers to integrate harm reduction and HIV support into their work.

She was elected to serve as a member of Amherst Town Meeting. In 2012, she co-coordinated the Amherst campaign to elect Elizabeth Warren to the U.S. Senate and in 2014, she was the Amherst organizer for the campaign to elect Maura Healey Massachusetts Attorney General. In 2010, she founded Make It Better Amherst, a social network of allies that formed in response to the suicide epidemic of LGBTQ teens.

Before moving to Massachusetts, Mindy worked for Congressman Ted Weiss (D-NY), opening his lower Manhattan district office, conducting constituent services, advocating for a federal response to the HIV epidemic, and working to prevent the federal government from stationing nuclear weapons in New York Harbor.

Mindy earned a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College and completed graduate coursework in adult learning for a masters degree from Teachers College Columbia University. She lives in Amherst with her partner. They have two adult daughters, both of whom are graduates from Amherst public schools.
