Legislative Aide, Massachusetts State House
Office of Incoming State Representative Mindy Domb, 3rd Hampshire District

The Legislative Aide oversees the operations of State Representative Mindy Domb’s Beacon Hill office.


The Legislative Aide:

  • Responds to incoming calls, emails, letters, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner, assessing the importance of and relaying messages accurately and promptly

  • Addresses, tracks, and resolves constituent requests

  • Schedules appointments and maintains State Representative’s calendar

  • Coordinates information and documents needed by State Representative for legislative activities (committee meetings, floor sessions, etc.) and researches legislation and policy

  • Performs other duties as assigned


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage constituent inquiries and casework, keep records of constituent service, respond promptly to constituent letters and inquiries

  • Prepare and compose correspondence and statements for State Representative


Research and Legislation

  • Track advancement of bills through the legislative process, including sponsorship opportunities and committee schedules, developing committee testimony and prepare materials, briefing the State

  • Representative on related matters, maintaining contact list for State Representative of those interested in specific legislation

  • Identify and monitor district specific issues, including tracking, updating and advising on home rule petitions from the 3rd Hampshire District


Community Relations

  • Represent the State Representative at meetings and events

  • Research and create articles, newsletters, press releases, and mass mailings

Required Qualifications

  • Literacy in legislative processes and willingness to learn House organization and procedures

  • Experience working with a diverse community

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, experience communicating effectively through clear and concise writing

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills needed to research and analyze relevant constituent issues, track legislation

  • Experience working cooperatively with a team and independently in a fast paced, production oriented environment

  • Strong organizational skills, knowledge of office practices and procedures

  • Proficiency in office computer application skills

  • Demonstrated experience working with a variety of personalities in a tactful and professional manner

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in public policy, social work or a related field
